The 6th Annual Feria Para Aprender
Saturday, January 28, 2012
North Lamar Event Center
The Feria Para Aprender (The Learning Fair) was first created in Austin, Texas in 2007. Every year, this flagship event continues to reach thousands more Latino parents and students who are drawn by its unique Spanish-language only educational format.
The 2010 Census revealed that 1 in 4 children in America under the age of 5 live in either California or Texas. Half of those children are Latino and many of them live right here in Central Texas. This diverse population is our region's rising generation. Central Texas's success will be measured by their success.
Feria Para Aprender, (the learning fair) now in its sixth year, is an example of an innovative and metrics based program that successfully improves parental participation in their child’s education. The Feria Para Aprender is an educational mobilization campaign that culminates in a one day learning fair which precisely targets the fast growing rising generation of Central Texas students and future workforce. In 2011, over 12,000 people attended and more than 15,000 books were distributed.
The purpose of the Feria Para Aprender is to create a learning environment that provides the growing population of students with Spanish speaking parents the information, tools, and resources that are needed to academically excel. Additionally, the Feria Para Aprender increases the capacity of our region's educational provider’s ability to support this population by virtue of the mandatory training prior to the Feria. This training for the educational service providers prepares their staff and encourages programs that best address Central Texas demographic changes.
