Ceremony to laud Austin s first affordable community in a transit-oriented district
U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett and Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell will help dedicate an affordable community Nov. 9 in East Austin.
M Station, located near the MetroRail Red Line, is Austin's first affordable complex in a transit-oriented development district. The City of Austin contributed $2 million in general obligation bonds toward the project's affordable housing units.
The complex developed by local nonprofit Foundation Communities has earned LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum status and is considered one of the greenest apartment complexes in the country.

Note to editors:
- Media parking: Reserved parking for television vans will be fronting MLK Boulevard in the Learning Center parking lot. Reserved parking for other media will be at the MLK side of M Station's main parking lot.
- Photo opportunities: A guided tour of M Station's green features and on-site support services at the property, including a Learning Center for children.
