This talk will summarize the evidence supporting a causal relation between exposure to smoking in movies and adolescent smoking, emphasizing the consistency of results. The talk will also present some preliminary evidence supporting specificity-evidence that supports the notion that movie smoking is an important component of the "movie effect."
The talk also describes a grassroots public health approach to affecting corporate behavior as it has been applied by public health advocates in this area. The Smoke Free Movies campaign is unique in that it has specific objectives that relate to the behavior of the large movie production companies in the United States.
