FTA and City Begin Environmental Study for Urban Rail Public Meetings
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and the City of Austin have officially begun the process of preparing an environmental impact statement (EIS) for Austin’s proposed Urban Rail system in Central Austin, including scheduling a series of meetings in April for the public to learn about and comment on the proposed system.
The FTA and City’s Notice of Intent to prepare an EIS for Urban Rail — the first step in the process prescribed by federal law and regulations can be viewed here:http://www.federalregister.gov/articles/2011/03/08/2011-5201/environmental-impact-statement-for-a-proposed-urban-rail-system-in-austin-tx
The initial, “scoping” phase of the EIS process will present information and gather input on the proposed Urban Rail system and consider alternate approaches to meeting Austin’s urban and regional transportation needs.
