Poverty Facts of the Month An estimated 163,630 (16%) Travis County residents lived in poverty in 2009, higher than the national poverty rate of 14%. Travis County's population grew at a rate of 26% from 2000 to 2009. The poverty population grew at twice that rate - 65%. One in four children under the age of 5 in Travis County were living in poverty in 2009.
